The painting depicts a cat out at night. The original for this picture was a collage, which I use from time to time for more abstract forms of paintings. This method of design uses scissors to “draw” the shapes, which results in a visual image that has a very different character than those which are sketched with a pen or pencil. The early abstract, and cubist painters, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Louis Marcoussis, Francis Picabia, Fernand Leger, and Stuart Davis, just to mention a few, used collage as a study medium to arrive at their earliest cubist and abstract paintings. Often they would cut up pieces of wall paper, fabric, and newspaper to create the compositions for their designs. This numbered limited edition giclee print is $ 25. Free Shipping and is signed by the artist (me, Mike Segal) and is printed with permanent inks on 8.5 in. x 11 in. acid free paper. It comes hand-mounted in our studio by Marvi, in an 11 in. x 14 in. acid free white Bainbridge® mat on an 11 in. x 14 in. foam core backing board. The window opening on the mat is 7.5 in. x 9.5 in. This print is ready to frame in a standard 11 in. x 14 in. frame. |
