Two Pianos Page

The picture depicts two baby grand pianos in the living room of our good friend Doris. Each year, Doris invites Marvi and I, along with several other closest friends to her home in Gainesville, Florida for an evening of music. Doris plays one of the pianos and her neighbor plays the other. They are accompanied by a cellist and flute player from the Gainesville philharmonic orchestra. After a buffet dinner, we all sit down for a most enjoyable recital by these extremely talented musicians.

For Doris's 80th birthday, I designed and painted a large canvas of this subject as a gift to our good friend. The original design incorporated only four colors, red, green, black and white. I have created this new version with six colors for this print.

Doris had once owned an art gallery in New York City in the 1950's and 1960's. Back in those days, abstract art was the contemporary art form and she exhibited many of the worlds most famous modern artists in her gallery.
This picture is a figurative abstract style, much the same as the style of painting that Doris enjoyed exhibiting in her New York gallery. Although it seems to be a departure from my usual folk art style of painting, I was trained as a landscape architect and designer at North Carolina State University, School of Design, which was the first school of modern architecture in United States.
Most of the professors at my design school were nationally recognized artists who primarily worked in the figurative abstract style of art. It is their influence which I am emulating with this painting.

It comes hand-mounted in our studio by Marvi, in an 11 in. x 14 in. acid free white Bainbridge® mat on an 11 in. x 14 in. foam core backing board. The window opening on the mat is 7.5 in. x 9.5 in. This print is ready to frame in a standard 11 in. x 14 in. frame.
