Walker Hound Dog Print by Mike Segal

This picture depicts my Walker Hound Dog who is sleeping right now in the shade of a big oak tree. She never lets the sun hit her if she can help it. I designed a clock with a picture of this hound going around a big oak tree, with the hour hand always moving around in the shade as the sun shifts through it’s daily arch.

She likes to hunt at night and it is pure music to hear that deep throated howl as she leads the pack through the woods chasing a raccoon or possum. My hound dog was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and was a gift from her breeder, Charlie Mintz.

Charlie’s family has been raising dogs, horses, cows, and goats in the North Carolina mountains for over 200 years. He raised the beagle dogs for Carl Sandburg, who lived over the hill in Flat Rock.
My hound dog does not catch any critters anymore, since she is getting older and mostly only will moves quickly at the rustle of her food bag. I think a squirrel could run across her forehead without getting much more than a raised eyebrow out of her. But we have come many miles together and you can have her to entertain you with this print.

It comes hand-mounted in our studio by Marvi, in an 11 in. x 14 in. acid free white Bainbridge® mat on an 11 in. x 14 in. foam core backing board. The window opening on the mat is 7.5 in. x 9.5 in.
